Look out, Lorax! Tricky Timber has arrived!

Do you love addictive puzzle games? Do you love plaid shirts and long johns? Do you love chopping down trees? Well step away from that conifer because Tricky Timber has got you covered and the trees are coming down!

Lifetime wanted a fun new addition for their growing library of addictive online games based around the reality programming that defines the Lifetime brand. We love the reality shows with the really tough jobs so we decided to build a game around the manliest job in history: lumberjack! The result was Tricky Timber.

Break out the chainsaws

One part addictive puzzle game and two parts plaid, Tricky Timber puts the player in the steel-toed boots of a surly lumberjack trying to clear some land.

Players clear the area of trees in as few cuts as possible using full cuts and half cuts to control which direction the trees fall.

Plan out how you want the trees to fall.

Choose your cuts wisely and create stunning domino-style tree falling carnage on thirty completely different levels.

Now take 'em down, domino style!

Make hippies cry and have fun at the same time! It’s the SMERC way!

Check out Tricky Timber for yourself HERE!

SMERC launches Wolf Yourself!

MTV came to SMERC looking for a way to create an online social experience for their hit show Teen Wolf that would engage fans for the Season 2 Premier and ensure continuous brand engagement.

MTV's hot new reality show about the follicly gifted!

Since Teen Wolf draws much of its dramatic tension from the difficulties faced by ordinary teens forced into extraordinary situations, we decided fans would enjoy the opportunity to place themselves in the shoes of their favorite Teen Wolf characters. Pimples, bad grades, and jocks aren’t enough drama for today’s teens. We wanted to add a little lycanthropy to the mix. To that end, we created Wolf Yourself.

Can't wait to see these attractive youngsters turn into bloodthirsty monsters.

Wolf Yourself is a Facebook/Web app combining the novelty allure of an avatar creation game with the long-term virality of a social infection game to establish and maintain a strong social media presence and to create a lasting compliment to the Teen Wolf brand.

Players upload a picture of themselves and definitely not one they found on teh internets.

Players first provide a picture, either uploaded from their computer, taken with a webcam, or selected from amongst their FB photos.

This is much easier than growing actual sideburns.

Then players customize their avatar, selecting from a variety of hair and eye colors, fang and ear styles, and accessories. If you’re already a werewolf, why not be a werewolf with pink hair, right?

When their avatar is finished, players Wolf Out: using their avatar pictures, Wolf Yourself creates a video animation of the player turning into a werewolf.

The body goes through many changes during adolescence.

Players can post a wolfed out pic to their Facebook wall or post the entire transformation video for everyone to see. Players level up by biting their friends and turning them into werewolves and voting on other players’ wolves using a hot-or-not style voting feature. Gaining levels unlocks new accessories and customization options for a player’s avatar. High-scoring wolves sit proudly atop a Leaderboard for everyone to see.

Teen Wolf fan response has been strong and consistent with over 30,000 wolves shared across Facebook so far and no end in sight.
Check it out for yourself HERE and see how you look when you Wolf Yourself!

Gotta leave the house? Take the new SELF Workout in the Park mobile app with you!

When we developed SELF Workout in the Park, our primary task was to create a rewarding game experience centered on reaching fitness goals and increasing the health and well-being of a personal avatar in a fun customizable environment. We achieved that easily enough, but we had another more sinister agenda: to find a way to help players take the inspiration they draw from their Workout in the Park exploits and use it to fuel progress towards real-world self improvement goals.

The Workout in the Park you already know and love.

We decided the best way to do this was to create a way for players to gamify their own real world fitness goals, to chart personal progress, and to apply those goals and that progress towards Workout in the Park.

Essentially, we wanted players to be able to take their Workout in the Park with them into their own real world workout!

Our solution is the Workout in the Park Mobile game.

The Workout in the Park you'll come to know and love.

Workout in the Park Mobile, available for FREE on iTunes, allows players to set real world goals, check-in at real world activities and events, and play fun mini-games to earn in-game rewards.

Meet your goals and earn in-game rewards!

Set fitness, nutrition, and wellness goals such as Work Out More, Drink More Water, and Get More Sleep. Taking steps to reach these goals not only helps our players be their best selves, it also earns rewards for the player’s avatar!

Check In to Fitness, Nutrition, and Wellness activities and events and post your actions to Facebook!

Check-In at daily fitness, nutrition, or wellness activities. Players receive in-game rewards by checking in when they go for a walk, stop by the health food store, or spend some time relaxing at a café with a friend. Players receive major rewards for checking in at big events like SELF’s massive annual Workout in the Park event!

Play the same Mini-Games you love from the Workout in the Park web app wherever you like on your mobile device and apply the rewards you earn towards your avatar’s park!

Earn Nutrition points playing the Smoothie Challenge, Fitness points with the Fitness Puzzle Challenge, and Wellness points with the Zen Match Challenge.

We think Workout in the Park Mobile is the perfect companion to the Workout in the Park web app and completes an unparalleled cross-platform gaming experience that rewards real-world participation and personal fitness growth.

It’s also really fun, and that’s kinda what SMERC is all about.

Girlgamer gives SELF Workout in the Park a 9.0!

Girlgamer took a look at our new Facebook game SELF Workout in the Park and seemed to like what they saw:

Playing SELF Workout in the Park has honestly been a motivating factor in all the real-life exercise I’ve been getting lately. It’s a great mix of instant gratification and short to mid-range goals. A few ladies I know who play the game get really competitive and have fun with it.

We are really glad to hear that people are finding Workout in the Park as motivational as it is fun. We worked hard to create an experience that took the typical social game structure and…ran with it. As GG says,

Rather than invest in a farm, zoo, etc. players invest in themselves (or rather an avatar version of themselves), earning Fitness, Nutrition and Wellness.

It’s awesome that people are picking up what we’re putting down. Click here to read the entire review!

Reuters identifies SELF Workout in the Park as the future of advertising!

Reuters covers the “explosive growth of advertising in social games” and guess what awesome new game they chose to single out.

Self magazine Publisher Laura McEwen sits in her office in the posh Conde Nast building overlooking New York’s Times Square and does nothing but play video games for at least an hour or two a day.

She isn’t goofing off — she is doing market research for “Self Workout in the Park,” a video game she helped create to capitalize on the explosive growth of advertising in social games like the ones played on Facebook and other online networks.

We have worked hard to become the best at expanding and enhancing brand presence across the social media landscape and the opportunity to help well-established brands like SELF make the transition to new media is what we are all about.

A whole boot-load of Dreamworks’ Puss in Boots

Dreamworks came to SMERC to create a cross-promotional experience with Nickelodeon Studios centered around and coinciding with the release of their Shrek spinoff film, Puss in Boots. And we delivered…an entire suite of fun games exploring different elements of the character and film.

Puss in Boots: Beanstalk Boost

Do you think man is the only creature to ever dream of soaring among the clouds? Don’t be a simpleton. We just never thought of doing it with a beanstalk.

In Puss in Boots: Beanstalk Boost, control Puss as he jumps up the beanstalk leaf by leaf on his way to the giant’s castle. Aim for the boots and springs for a boost and avoid hazards because it’s a long way down and this cat doesn’t always land on his feet. That is just a rumor spread by dogs.

Puss in Boots Coloring Book

Who doesn’t love Coloring Books? Now you can support or subvert your child-like desire to color in the lines with our Puss in Boots: Coloring Book game.

Choose from a selection of Coloring Book style images featuring Puss in Boots, Kitty, and Humpty Dumpty and then color your cares away. Will your creations resemble the Puss in Boots we all know and love…or some bizarre manifestation of your tragically fractured mind? Either way, it’s cheaper than therapy.

Legend of Puss in Boots

Haven’t you always wanted an experience that combines beans, warthogs, egg-rolling, and cats? Well, we heard you loud and clear and our answer is the Legend of Puss in Boots!

Control Puss in Boots as he runs through alleys and across rooftops collecting magic beans with his friend Humpty Dumpty. Dodge barrels and warthogs or unleash Humpty Dumpty’s special attack. It’s like your morning commute, only with a few more rolling eggs.

Don’t just enjoy the legend, become the legend.

Puss in Boots: Capture the Magic Beans

With Puss in Boots: Capture the Magic Beans you can fill your need for Puss in Boots and practice your ninja stealth training at the same. You’re killing two birds with one burglary!

Sneak into Jack’s shack and help Puss in Boots beat Kitty to the magic bean. Don’t let Jack see you or it’s game over, man.  Jack’s a light sleeper so you better have a lighter step.

We built a suite of games matching the tongue-in-cheek humor of the films and pairing it with a fun and exciting gameplay experience. And we are proud that, with well over a million plays and overwhelmingly positive feedback, the visitors to pussinbootsthemovie.com and nick.com enjoy these games as much as we do.

South Park Pop Quiz. Laugh until you pee.

South Park Pop Quiz

South Park Pop Quiz

The only movie I have ever been to during which I couldn’t hear the sound but for the din of laughter was the South Park movie. What would Brian Boitono do? Shut You F***ing Face Uncle F***er! Ten years later I still think about these moments and laugh to myself.

So when South Park asked us to make them the mother of all video trivia games we jumped at the chance. We’d had great success working with South Park before. With over 15 million plays, our game South Park Death Rally is the most popular SouthPark Game ever made. From this came the South Park Pop Quiz. It is the definitive interactive South Park experience. We think it is one of the most entertaining things on the Internet. You’re welcome, world.

The game features clips from the actual show paired with hilarious questions and answers from the team over at South Park Studios. Players unlock achievements for their efforts and can win exclusive items in the South Park avatar creator.

Let’s dig a little deeper and look under the hood at why this application is such a success.

South Park Pop Quiz

South Park Pop Quiz

1) Facebook and SPS

South Park wanted their app available for their entire audience, so we built it for their South Park Studios site and for Facebook. We supplied them with  the ability to use the South Park login on their site and then play on Facebook as well. Players on both sites progress were tracker against a common backend.

2) Extensive CMS

South Park wanted to be able to customize EVERY aspect of this game. Every question. Every answer. Music. Sound. Tags. They can import questions from an excel files or manage them online. They can change the appearance and the experience down to minutiae.   In the end the received an app that will live and thrive for a long time and be able to adapt to the needs of their audience.

3) Sponsorships and reporting

As much as we’d love to believe the internet is free someone pays for all this fun. The realities of internet life are that sponsorships and reporting are key to making the magic happen. We built South Park a  means of assigning and monitoring their sponsorships that could satisfy them and their clients. What could be more demanding or more rewarding?

In the end SMERC produced the premier online South Park experience online not for now but for a while to come. Play the game and come to realize it obvious genius, not some much for what we did but how can you resist Cartman’s Authoritae in video glory no less?
